On 24 March, Mr. Valentīns Hitrovs, the newly appointed member of the Competition Council (CC) of Latvia, begins to perform his duties. On 9 February, Mr. Hitrovs was appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Until the appointment, Mr. Hitrovs was the deputy director of the Legal department of the CC. In total, Mr. Hitrovs has an eight years long work experience at the CC. He has studied interdisciplinary the competition law and economic aspects of competition both in Latvia and abroad.
The decision-making body of the CC consists of three officials – the chairperson of the CC and two council members. Currently, the head of the CC is Ms. Skaidrīte Ābrama (appointed on 12 June, 2012), while duties of the council member performs Mr. Jānis Račko (appointed on 7 January, 2014).
For ten years or two terms of office, duties of the second council member were performed by Mr. Dzintars Striks.
According to the Competition Law, the term of office of the CC’s members is five years.
