On 21 September, the Competition Council (CC) approved a new operational strategy for the period 2023–2029. The strategy sets out the institution's values as rule of law, professionalism, independence, development and transparency.
In 2022, amendments to the Competition Law strengthened the powers, independence and resources of the CC, which will provide a solid basis for achieving the set goals and objectives over the next planning period. The institution's decision-making body, the Council, was also strengthened by increasing the number of its members from three to five and by increasing the Council's powers, which will enable it to be more actively involved in the institution's internal deliberations, with all Council members having equal status, thus ensuring continuity, transparency and the rule of law in the institution's work. The Advisory Council of the Competition Council was established to promote public participation and cooperation with its strategic partners – ministries, local government authorities and business associations – as an independent institution, as well as to develop closer and more effective cooperation on competition policy development and enforcement issues.
The mission of the CC: To protect and promote free, fair and equal competition between market participants in all sectors of the economy, to prevent unjustified restrictions on free competition by public entities – state and local government authorities – and to bring substantial benefits to society.
The vision of the CC: The Competition Council is an effective and open institution, trusted by the public and committed to active, effective involvement in the development of markets and the protection of market participants' right to fair competition, achieving a significant improvement of the competitive environment.
Priorities of the CC:
- PRIORITY: The Competition Council's team is professional, committed and development-oriented
- PRIORITY: Results-oriented day-to-day operations and cooperation, ensuring the detection of significant impediments to competition and the promotion of competition
- PRIORITY: Innovative and sustainable working environment

The priorities and objectives identified confirm that the CC will strengthen its capacity to detect and prevent significant distortions of competition, both by developing employee competences and professionalism, by modernising business processes and introducing innovations, and by continuing effective cooperation with national and international partners. Experience to date shows that these are promising avenues that enhance the quality of performance, contribute to the accumulation of valuable professional experience and save much-needed time resources. At the same time, the CC remains focused on raising public and market participants' awareness of competition law, thereby preventing infringements through ignorance and highlighting the benefits of fair competition.
