On 5 December, the World Competition Day, the Competition Council of Latvia (the CC) organises a discussion event “Point of Contact: Competition”, which is dedicated to the competition opportunities of public administrative bodies – state, municipalities and capital companies owned by them – and private entrepreneurs, meeting in the business environment.
On 1 January 2020, the amendments to the Competition Law come into effect, which will provide the CC with more efficient instruments for prevention of one of the most widespread problems of the competition environment in Latvia – competition distortions caused by public administrative bodies. In order to acquaint the involved parties – public administrative bodies and capital companies owned by them, private entrepreneurs and non-governmental organizations – with the new provisions of the competition law, the CC organises an event “Point of Contact: Competition” on the World Competition Day.
The format of the event “Point of Contact: Competition” is chosen as a mutual discussion of the involved parties to find a compromise for the contact of public administrative bodies and private entrepreneurs in the competition environment before and after the improved Competition Law. The event participants will look for a common focal point in six sectors: culture, health, house management, local tourism, waste management and digital services.
At the conclusion of the event, the CC will award the winners of the campaign “Most Preposterous Obstacle to Competition”.
